The Arcon 6-9 tournaments (1990-1993) all had 8 tables, 2 heats and 49 players. Borger Borgersen didn’t change his tournament format before the 1994 NDC. Prior to this it was always 7 boards in the qualification heat with the winners going to the top table in the “final” heat. The interest in Diplomacy was great so there was no problem filling up the boards with 49 players in the qualification. We could probably have had much larger tournaments in Norway in these years if it hadn’t been for the limits of the tournament structure. The scoring system for Arcon 6-9 can best be labeled “Centre Count”. Tiebreaker was a ranking of powers, where 1. Germany was deemed most difficult to play, then 2. Italy, 3. Austria, 4. Russia, 5. Turkey, 6. England and 7. France. |
