I went over the issues of Valhalla,,, a zine from 68-69
In the Club news issue 6 there is a report from Doug Beyerlein:
"about 25 people attended the war games convention in Seattle over the weekend
of June 15-16 ((1968)), Doug Baker won the Diplomacy tournament, I finished second with
Richard Shagrin third. Ben Turk won the Avalon Hill tournament with Shagrin second and greg Long third. Each person received a free Brobingnag and Valhalla.((both Diplomacy Zines )).
What the tournament meant in terms of games and players involved is not known.
Maybe Buz Eddy can call Doug Beyerlein in Seattle and find out if he remembers anything about it.
Most likely there were two games but it could also have been just one game.
No idea of the scoring system. Games were generally played to a Win/Draw situation or a consensus conclusion at the time.
